Spencer J. Corbett
CEO

Spencer J. Corbett firmly believes that everyone — regardless of socio-economic status — should have the dignity of living in a pest-free environment. For more than 35 years, he has worked tirelessly toward this goal with Corbett Exterminating — developing pest control strategies and practices specifically tailored to serving the needs of the multi-family housing market.

A self-starter, Spencer began working in the pest control industry as a youth in Newark, N.J., and soon built a reputation as a stellar technician with a natural flair for business. Seeing a clear need in the industry and motivated to better the lives of the people in his community, Spencer launched Corbett Exterminating in 1976 — he was only 17.

From the beginning, Spencer knew the importance of using only the most environmentally responsible Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems. His extensive knowledge of the industry has allowed him to offer unique IPM systems that continually control every possible infestation scenario through aggressive, preventive maintenance programs.

This process, in conjunction with good communication between Corbett Exterminating and management companies, guarantees satisfaction and results. He has maintained long-standing relationships by actively educating his clients and their tenants, assuring preparation and cooperation — both necessary for effective and targeted pest management.

Spencer is a nationally recognized speaker at industry meetings and regularly participates in national seminars focusing on insects, their behavior, biology and control. He also consults with other pest control companies on a variety of pest issues in both commercial and residential settings.

Spencer is a member of numerous organizations, including the National Pest Management Association, the N.J. Pest Management Association, several chambers of commerce and Real Estate associations. He looks forward to building on his relationships and expertise to expand his already successful business.

Spencer Corbett, Jr.
Vice President of Technical Operations

Spencer Corbett, Jr. does not just share his father’s name, he shares his passion for making Corbett Exterminating one of the best pest control companies in the country.

To that end, Spencer has immersed himself in this growing business since childhood — learning the day-to-day operations from the ground up.

As a child, unlike most boys his age, Spencer did not play with bugs — he studied them. He began working with his father at the age of 10, learning the ins and outs of the family business and by the time he graduated high school, he was working as a technician in the field. Spencer’s work ethic and dedication at a young age earned him the trust and respect of his fellow team members — whom he now leads. Upon attaining his bachelor’s degree in business in 2008, Spencer joined Corbett Exterminating as vice president of technical operations.

A natural leader, Spencer oversees the execution of group strategy, policies and procedures. He is also active in Corbett’s product development, as well as the evaluation of product performance. To stay ahead of the industry curve, Spencer regularly participates in seminars focusing on insects, their behavior, biology and control.

Spencer's vast technical knowledge in the field, coupled with his education and passion to be the best, have prepared him to effectively guide Corbett Exterminating into the future.

Sonja Smith
Vice President of Operations

When Sonja Smith joined Corbett Exterminating more than 25 years ago, she had no idea that she would help develop and grow one of the largest minority-owned pest control companies in the country.

Sonja began her career at Corbett as an effective office manager. As the company grew, so did her responsibilities. A quick learner and adroit people person, Sonja proved herself to be indispensable and rapidly rose through the ranks to become vice president of operations, helping Corbett shape its long-term strategic vision and aggressive growth plans.

Sonja has always believed that an educated, well-trained employee is the company’s strongest asset. To keep the company competitive and on the fast track, she has implemented Corbett’s unparalleled training program that uses advanced learning concepts and techniques to facilitate all company education for managers, new employees and technicians. And, once a month, she holds a workshop to target specific areas of protocol and procedures. Sonja also helped create and update the Corbett Training Manual to maintain the company’s high standards of quality.

With her eyes firmly set on the future, Sonja looks forward to continued company growth, specifically the establishment of more satellite offices in states beyond the Northeast.
